One of the new lures I got to use this year is Caven’s Violator-7, and I am going to do a review for you.
This review is going to be a little bit different because I actually haven’t used this lure yet. I know it seems kind of strange to talk about a lure without having used it, but I wanted you to understand what my initial first impressions were.
The Lure Maker

Tim Caven’s Violator-7 Call/Gland lure for predators.
Tim Caven is a lure maker from Minnesota. Tim makes a broad line of lures and baits and you can find a few of them in our store, along with other trapping supply dealers. Not only is Violator Seven a really cool name, Tim named this lure after a guy in the military. It’s got a really cool story behind it and I will get to that a second. But I want to talk a little bit about Violator Seven and my first impressions of it.
Initial Reaction
like I said I haven’t had a chance to use this yet. But I’m really looking forward to it. The bottle says predator gland and call lure. I’m definitely going to be using this lure. Now the first thing you can tell when you pop the lid on this is there is definitely skunk here. That will help it be a good call, but a good call needs a lot more than skunk. I can also smell glands. Not heavily tainted glands, probably fresher glands, but definitely not completely tainted. There is also some beaver castor in here that I can tell. That’s going to add curiosity to the call. Every animal is attracted to castor. Something else is in here, it finishes with something sweet once you get past the skunky. I’m not exactly sure what it is.
How I Would Use This Lure
I don’t like using call lures down a dirt hole so I probably will not be using this down a dirt hole. This will go on the mouth of the dirt hole, or probably higher up on a fence post with a set down below it somewhere. This is definitely going to call them in when used correctly with the prevailing wind.
A Little History
Tim has been making baits a lures a long time. I think he says on his website he has been using this since 1985 or so. It is still on the market and selling strong (pun intended) so he is doing something right here. This is going to be a good one and I can’t wait to use it.
The Name: Violator-7
